Jawara – Folk Dance of MP

January 10, 2009

‘Jawara’ reflects the great joy and excitement of the people for a good harvest season. The dance is performed by both men and women. The women wear colourful costumes and jewellery, balancing pots skillfully full of
Jawara (grains) on their heads while dancing.

A Kathak dancer caught at the end of a chakar or Kathak spin.  This picture has a nice blurry effect to it.

You can see the elaborate costumes that are worn by girls while performing garba – a traditional Gujarati folk dance performed especially during the festival of Navratri.  Picture is from the Tribune India (Oct 19, 2004)
